How to Keep Your Smile White After Whitening

Once you have had professional teeth whitening done on your smile, you’ll probably want to keep it looking bright! Here are a few tips on how to keep your smile white after teeth whitening treatment.

Brush & Floss Thoroughly

To keep your teeth white, brushing and flossing regularly and sufficiently is key. Your oral hygiene routine will help you remove surface stains and keep them from setting in. You should brush your teeth twice a day every day, for two minutes at a time, and floss your teeth at least once a day.

Be extremely thorough. Gently brush all four quadrants of your mouth, and don’t stop until you have completed two full minutes of brushing. You may find an electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head really helps with this process. Many electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is up.

Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks

Dark, pigmented foods or drinks can often cause tooth discolouration over time. Dark berries, coffee, tea, and even spices like curry, should be consumed in moderation in order to avoid staining your teeth.

Quit Smoking

If you need another reason to quit smoking, consider your teeth. Smoking can discolour teeth like nothing else, turning them yellow or even brown over time.

To keep your smile sparkling white, toss those smokes in the trash!

Occasional Touch Ups

Over time, the effects of your whitening treatment may wear off a bit. If this happens, it may be time for a touch up! You can re-use the whitening trays you already have, and just order some more of the whitening solution.
