Preparing for Your Dental Sedation Appointment

Preparing for Your Dental Sedation Appointment

Here’s how you should prepare for a safe and successful appointment if you're scheduled to undergo dental treatment under sedation.

The following instructions are applicable to general anesthesia and intravenous (IV) sedation.

Note that, your dentist may have specific instructions for you depending on your specific needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming dental sedation appointment.

Instructions for Our Dental Patients

Please read these instructions carefully; they are for your safety! Print them off and keep them handy as a reference if that would be helpful.

Food & Drink

No eating or drinking after midnight on the night before your appointment. This includes water.

If you need to take medications, take them as usual, with just a small sip of water. You will be allowed to eat any time after your procedure.

Note that if you do not follow these instructions exactly, we will need to reschedule your appointment. Your safety comes first!

The Day Of Your Appointment

Arrange to have a responsible adult bring you to your appointment, and drive you home afterwards, as driving is not safe under sedation.

If you wear contact lenses, be sure to remove them before you leave home.

If you have dentures, removable bridgework or a partial plate, please leave it at home, or bring a container to store it in during surgery.

Additional Notes

If you develop a cold prior to your surgery, notify our office as soon as possible.

If you must cancel your surgery, it's extremely important that you notify the clinic as soon as soon as possible, since surgical appointments with general anesthesia or IV sedation are scheduled very closely together.

Please be aware that if you do not cancel in time, we lose two appointments: yours, and the one we might have booked in your place had you provided ample notice.

If you have questions about an upcoming dental sedation appointment, please feel free to contact our Surrey dental office any time!
