The majority of our Surrey patients find that local anesthetic is sufficient to prevent pain during routine dental procedures. Nonetheless, some patients need additional help to get them through the essential treatment they need. That's where dental sedation can help.

Typically, local anesthetic is adequate for preventing pain during routine dental procedures such as fillings however, some patients find the additional help of dental sedation beneficial for reducing anxiety and helping them to have a positive dental experience. 

Each patient's sedation and general anesthesia needs are different. Your reasons for requesting sedation will be different from another patients, which is why our Surrey dentists determine each patient's sedation needs on a case-by-case basis. 

Your dentist may recommend dental sedation in the following cases:

  • Exaggerated gag reflexes
  • Low pain tolerance
  • Special healthcare requirements
  • Difficulties sitting still during dental treatment
